I’m not one to skip out on a healthy breakfast. It’s known as the most important meal of the day for a reason. Unfortunately, I never have time to sit down and eat it at home before I leave for work (largely because I snooze my alarm until the last possible minute, but hey, who doesn’t, at least from time to time?). Office breakfast can be challenging for some because you’re limited with what you can prepare. Even though I have a full company kitchen at my disposal, (yes, an oven and a range) I don’t arrive with enough time to cook myself even the quickest of breakfasts. I need something quick, super quick. So what is one to do?
I don’t want to order my breakfast from a take-out window because I can never find anything acceptable for my picky diet. Now, if you have a snack and beverage delivery service at your office, you hit the jackpot. Most classic breakfast staples will be at your fingertips, such as cereals, yogurt, snack bars, bread, hard-boiled eggs, and fruit. And admittedly, even with regular rotation, it takes skill to keep the offerings looking just as exciting as the day they were first available. And that skill: Creativity.
For me, I would say that the easiest breakfast item to customize is oatmeal; plain oatmeal. I prefer plain because it’s a blank canvas for you to dress up however you like. Yes, I am the type of person with mason jars stacked on my desk full of dried fruits, nuts, and seeds that I use on a daily basis. But you don’t need a full apothecary in order to dress up your oatmeal. It just takes some quick and healthy options to turn it into a powerhouse of nutrition. Nourish Snack’s Cinn-Sational is an excellent example because it fits the bill perfectly. It’s a blend of dried apples and almonds spiced with cinnamon and just a touch of sugar. Break open a bag and pour that in your bowl with oatmeal and boom – instant upgrade. Another one of my favorites: slice up a banana and add in a packet of Justin’s peanut butter.
If you’re one to opt for a protein shake for breakfast you can drop in a serving of yogurt for an extra protein and flavor boost. All it takes is a flip of a lid. Or, if you prefer your yogurt to stay in the cup, top it with granola or even trail mix.
There is a trend going around that I finally decided to try, and now I am hooked: Dave’s Killer bread, avocado and sliced Wilcox organic hard-boiled eggs. Of course, this chili-head tops it with Sriracha.
All of these options are super quick and take just a few minutes to prepare. Go forth and give them a try, remember to experiment, and as always, happy eating!
Think you might be ready for a snack and beverage program for your office? We’d love to hear from you. Give us a shout.
